Hey guys, i got two big problems but i will post a new thread for the other one. i have recently installed windows xpsp2 on a new computer i built. Then installed MACROMEDIA STUDIO 8 since i want to learn how to create web sites and graphic designs. after doing so everything worked fine for a while, when i tried to watch a tutorial on photo shop i could not hear any sounds!

I checked in the sounds and audio devices and it says NO AUDIO DEVICE i checked to make sure that the drivers where there and they were. then just to be sure they weren't corrupted I reinstalled the drivers from the cd, and still no sound.

Finally I checked Device manager and everything seemed fine no (exclamation marks) or nothing at all.

i dont' know what happened next but i somehow got it to recognize the sound device got my sound back and it worked ok until i shut it down to go to sleep. In the morning the same thing happened and after that i could not get my dvd burner and cd-rom recognized by xp. I finally decided something was corrupted in xp and decided to go through the dreaded task of wiping everything out and reinstalled windows xp. (since in the bios it did recognize the dvd burner and rom)

After reinstall everything was fine got my sound back and it worked fine when i left for work. When i got back yesterday the same thing happened (but this time in the device manager i had an exclamation mark and it said audio device missing
(had it connect to the internet to look up for the correct drivers and sound device, downloaded them and got my sound back) and has been working ok since. (well so far anyways)

I am afraid that when i get back from work today that i will have no sound again. What do you guys think the culprit could be any and all help is very welcome.

Thanks guy's

Maybe now that you got the above off your chest the computer will settle down and behave itself.

Have you made sure that your Bios is updated to the latest version?

Try another user if this problem occurs again.

Also try System Restore.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

I recently saw this MSKB article and read it without really understanding its significance, maybe it will make sense to you?

If this happens again, take note of wether or not the volume control is still in the notification area of the taskbar. If not & you try to add it, do you get an error?

when that happens ther volume control is no longer in the system tray and also if i go to START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>ENTERTAINMENT>VOLUME CONTROL
I get a message that say's "you don't have a wavelenght synth or another program is using your audio device."

thanks for all the help.

also just a quick note i just recently put this computer together about 2 weeks ago. do you guys think xp can get corrupted twice or maybe the cd is corrupted?

thanks.

linney, i did create another windows user and the samething happened.

thanks for all guys

Quite some time ago I ran into a situation where something kept corrupting Sndvol32.exe and that would make it appear that the sound was not functioning. The machine in question had a video conferencing system that included an add-on card with it's own sound system. However, I don't recall seeing the 'NO AUDIO DEVICE' message.

I think that linney is on the right track with the drivers though. Look for updated sound drivers from the manufacturer of your motherboard or sound card.

THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH I BELIEVE YOU ARE RIGHT SMAH I BELIEVE SO TOO.

WILL POST UP IF I HAVE ANY OTHER ISSUES OR IF IT IS COMPLETELY RESOLVED.
