Why does Security say all is OK?

I have not loaded the trial security applications (one care, etc.) that came with SBS 2008 and have not loaded any other. Why does security show no problems with this? Am I in fact OK to go?

I got the same question when I set up a new SBS 2008 server. I chated with the server seller's tech support. I asked "SBS Console shows green for both virus protection and malware protection. Does this mean that I do not need any anti-virus software?" The tech support replied "There is no anti software protection. That feature is a centralized location to view the status of the installed software." But the tech support could not answer why all are green even no protection is installed.

I think it's green just because all the mail hygiene systems built in are working. There are two areas to consider: mail and file as far as I can see.

Exchange seems to have filtering against Spam. At the moment we have POP3 working on mailboxes so our ISP is a "Smart Host" for incoming mail.

1. Is outgoing SMTP mail also covered in this situation?

2. Do we have to do anything to the default Exchange 2007 Filtering systems?

The other aspect is the file system which I assume is not protected by Exchange 2007 this must include the inbuilt website file systems as well as client data, etc.

Do we need to buy one (I have Norton Enterprise 11 ready or I could by the Norton serer package which covers Exchange as well)?

I am new to SBS. The server seller told me that the security software is needed but refused to give me any recommendation on the brand. She told me that any security software that targeted to the SBS would work.
My server is for a very small office (less than 10 workstations). What I am looking at now is the ESET Nod32 Server edition.
