I had my AMD Desktop computer with Win98 in the reapir shop and the clerk installed additional RAM (512 MB) to the original 256 MB that I had in there.

Since that date, Scan Disk is acting strangely and runs every time the system reboots, even after I shut off the computer properly.

Could this be in connection with too many MB of RAM?
Or could it be on account of the increased virtual cache?

Yous valuable input will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Charles.

click "start" -> "Run" - type in "msconfig"
Check for scan disk in the startup tab, or anything else that might look out of place.

Start, Run, mscongfig.
Click on Advanced near the bottom right.
Place a checkmark in the box for; Disable fast shutdown.
Reboot.

If that doesn't solve it, go here;

and click on the link (near the center of the page) for the 98 fix.

It's a good day when you learn something

Memo to Petursson and DanPenny:

Thank you for your help. I did what you suggested and my problem is fixed. I didn't have to resort to plan B (Microsoft kbid=273017).

The tech-tips colleagues are just great and helpful!
