Why does Outlook take five minutes to boot?

I only use Outlook as a Diary, not as an emailer.
I am using
Intel Core i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz, 8,0GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics, MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2014, and I have Google Talk, Skype, and Memeo Backup Premium Pro running in the background.

When I boot the machine, Outlook takes a full five minutes to load. In the meantime it is useless trying to do anything else.

Why is it so slow?
How can I fix that?

Thanks

Have you tried Office repair?

Also, if you're using Outlook as a Diary, you're probably not using the best tool for the job anyway. How are you using it as a diary?

Perhaps I should have said Appointment Book.

And, yes, I have tried repair. it is still as slow as a month of wet Sundays!

My next guess is your security software. For instance, if it is set to scan email (which I think is a default setting in most AV products), then maybe since you're storing different items than it is accustomed to, it is taking longer to complete each scan. I'd look for any settings in the AV program as well as within Outlook about virus scanning, and see if you can tweak or just totally disable said options.

What version of Outlook? Try opening Outlook using one of the commandline switches, e.g. /safe:2 or /nopollmail. Alternatively, press and hold the CTRL key before double-clicking on the Outlook shortcut/icon. This is the same as using the /safe switch which starts Outlook without any extensions, Reading Pane or any toolbar customisations.

Hope this helps...

Putting antivirus on minimum check for emails has halved the boot time.

Also, I may not have yet mentioned add-ins. Just remembered - add-ins can bring Outlook to a crawl sometimes. So if you use any add-ins it'd be good checking there.
