Why does my fputcsv file contain the page html?

Seems simple enough. I AM getting the file created on the user's system but when viewed it contains not only the csv output but the entire html code for the subsequent page. I'm sure there must be something I'm missing to turn off the csv function after is been output but I certainly seem to be unable to find it. So I thought I would ask here for suggestions/pointers.
