I have installed backup exec several times on two windows 2000 servers, Backup exec will work for about a month, then just stop communicating with the internal stand alone dlt drive. I then have to uninstall the software and reboot the server to install it again, I set up the the software again, backup exec will work just fine then it will stop communicating with the drive after about 1 month to 2 months. This all happens without making any changes to the drive or the software, I dont reboot the server unless this happens....Does this happen to anyone else or know what the problem is? Does veritas have a problem with windows service pack 3?

well we run veritas 8.6 with windows 2000sp3 without any issues.
what do your event logs show around the times you lose communication with the DLT? does the DLT show up ok in device manager? control panel?
with the limited amount of information presented so far i would suspect a windows problem and not necessarily a veritas problem.
it might also help if you posted the log from a failed backup.
communication failure may be a result of hard drive (or network) problems. we lost communication a couple of times during backup of the fileserver a few months ago. turns out one of the hard drives in the RAID array was going bad.
let us know...

Hmm,

Strange one.

I would have to agree that I don't think its a veritas Problem unless your using the Eval Version . = )

Which would explain alot.

But back to your problem. You will have to bring back more information. The lot of us run Veritas with no such problems which you are having. Be sure to check for event logs and job logs to see if you can identify something. SCSI controller going bad.. etc...

Thanks,
