Hello-
My first post here. I just bought quicktime pro to put some movies up on my site that were shot with a digital camera.

These movies are not that long (maybe a minute) and they load very very slowly.

Why is it that if you go and look at say, a Lord of the Rings movie preview that's 5 minutes in length that it loads faster and looks so sharp compared to my own?

I made it a self contained movie and 'optimized' it for medium speed download. If I optimized for fast, it becomes
this tiny little movie.

Thanks for your help!

It all depends on your codec, quality, frames per second, data rate and key frame rate. The lower each one of these is, the quicker your movie will load. The reason that some movies load faster even though they are longer and have better quality really depends on these factors, especially codec.

Download a .mov file and open it with quicktime. Find either "Show Movie Info" or "Show Movie Properties" from your Window Menu. There you'll see the information on Frames per Second, Format, Data Rate, and, most importantly, Data Size. The lower the data size the faster it will load. And again, the lower the fps, data rate, and even pixel size of the movie, the lower the Data Size.

If you have Final Cut Pro you can export a quicktime movie and play with these settings.

Good Luck.
