Hi Guys, about 4 or 5 of my brightstor backups have this problem. They will work for a few days then the tape will show "offline" and I have to hit "online" to get it to work again. I've applied servicepacks. Most of my machiness that are doing this are running 11.1 I think one is running 9. My old servers with 6.61 and 7 on them don't do this at all.

The drive I have attached is HP Storageworks 72 External or 40 External

version of ARCserve makes no difference.

A drive is marked offline if a tape fails to load or if there is a hardware error.

Hi,

Do they go offline after a "cleaning" happens on the drive.. ??

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \ ComputerAssociates \ BAB \ Base \ TapeEngine

Create new Key:

Key Name: Cleandrive
Class: Leave Class blank

Create value under Cleandrive

Value Name: DontDisableDrives
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 1 (1 = enable, 0 = disable)

just a thought..

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

I think that is drives will not go offline if the cleaning is not done.
