Why do I have to render simple effects to preview in 6.5?

I thought the whole idea was that in 6.5 you didn't have to. I have a big matrox (RTX1000?) card and a very fast computer.

When I try and do things like add snow effects, do any motion, transparecy or stuff like bluring out faces i have to hit return and render it before I can preview it. I thought I didn't have to in 6.5. It takes me ages to do anything as any change I make mean I have to render again. I am very frustrated!

Any help would be much appreciated

ALT-scrub gives a quicker look.

What is available in RT will depend on your capture card manufacturer. I don't use a Matrox card, but I would expect that only additional Matrox RT effects would be implemented in RT by your card, rather than more of Premiere's.
