Why can't I establish my replication on remote end via internet?

I was trying to establish a replicated copy on my remote server end, I chose 'tools',then 'syncronize copy',then 'make new copy',then I made a FTP link, I inputted my username and password, then I could see the files and folders in that location, but when I named my new copy and clicked 'save',it told me that I could not do that, and suggested me to turn to local or LAN location......
Did I foget some thing? "Learn till the last breath."
