Why can't I change my CPU multiplier

Well, I bought a new PC- AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton 512 L2 on Epox's motherboard EP-8RDA+
revision 2.1! I'm not sure about my memory I bought it at low price maybe it's Kingston Value Ram 3200 it runs @ 8-3-2-2.5 timings of course @ 200Mhz.My hard disk is Maxtor 80 GB @ 7200rpm(6Y080L0),graphics MSI GF4 Ti 4800se
128DDR, cooler on AMD is the one I got in box pack with the processor.
I'm asking about the change of multiplier because I would like to increase my system performance.My curent multiplier is 11.0!My BIOS version is 27/8/2003.Is there anyone who
knows the solution to this problem????

It's now locked by AMD after about week 39 of last year. No good method of unlocking the chip has yet to be seen. The locked multiplier really has little effect on the overclockability of the Barton chip. Most just up the fsb to 200 where it syncs with the PC3200 memory and call it good. Naturally it doesn't work for everyone but when it does it's a quick easy way to a 3200+.

As AMD enthusiasts is now upgrading to AMD 64 cpu's
there is more second hand (used) xp2500+ cpu's sold .
You might be lucky to get a used pre week 39 2500 if
you browse around .

Hi there,

go to an Overclockers website, and check there, they have more info about overclocking (ie unlocking these chips) then you will ever find here...

One of the Reasons is simply, that we will not (at least I will not, and many others) tell you how to do this... as this is a forum for troubleshooting problems and not one for creating them...
