I tried to burn Linux RedHat v9.0 CD#1 from a downloaded .ISO file using Nero 6.0.0.11. After I selected the image file, a popup indicated it was a foreign image ( ?? ) and asked to be corrected or ignored . I selected "ignore" and clicked "Burn" . Nero then warned that the burner was being used by another application ! There was no application using the drive at all , just the blank CD to be burnt . Please advise what was going on and how to proceed . Thanks... ( My system WinXP Pro SP1, Celeron 900 )

Does it have the .iso extention? Nero recognizes .nrg .iso and .cue image files. Windows somtimes likes to add it's own extention to downloads when it thinks you're too dumb to use one it understands. I had that problem downloading tarballs to my win box. There should be a script that does a checksum on the iso files to make sure they are not corrupt in the same directory you download the iso from. You may want to take advatage of that before you download everything all over again. Do you go through the "Make Data CD" menu to burn the iso? I go to the "Copy / Backup" menu the select "Burn Image to CD".

Thanks, sleipnir214 ,RhythmAce and thedaver , for your kind comments. I used UltraISO to extract the .iso file and it appeared to be corrupted because there was a .doc file and it was all rubbish when I opened it with MSword.
I also copied the file <rawrite.exe > and <bootdisk.img> to make a bootdisk but DOS could not start rawrite.exe ( it froze when I typed rawrite at the DOS prompt . This was a proof the file was corrupted ?? ) .
But all the files were there , at least in names. . I'll check the file integrity as suggested. Thanks for the guiding direction.

It turned out that all three .iso files I D/L were all corrupted !! I found out by DL their MD5 files from RedHat servers and compared to mine obtained by using <fsum v2.5> and <Hyper Hasher v3.0.1> ( BTW, they are both excellent freewares ). I had to re-DL all of them and got these files without errors this time. Finally, I could burn these images to CDs and get the bootdisk made allright!

Again, thanks sleipnir214 and RhythmAce , for your expertise !

Best regards,
