Why are plain text emails to CRM converted to HTML?

We have an automated system that fires emails into CRM. We have a workflow and C# routine that associates the emails with an account and contact. The emails are in plaintext to make the C# parsing easier. But the plaintext email is converted to HTML as soon as it is promoted into CRM.

Is there a way to turn this off?
 
Just found out that apparently CRM can't do this - there is no way to run off the conversion to HTML!

One of my co-workers found a question on a forum that was responded to by a Microsoft employee who said that they would put this in as a suggestion for a new feature.

That post was dated October 24th 2006.
