I running Windows 7 and Windows Explorer 8 on two Dell laptops that are in the same HOMEGROUP and WORKGROUP. I have designated Documents, Music, Video and Pictures as shared Folders. I don't understand how the folder names are being displayed in Windows Explorer, under Networks. In the case of Documents, for example, I see multiple folders listed with names like Documents, Documents~1, Documents~2, Documents~3, etc. How did I end up creating multiple instances of each folder? How do I clean up this mess? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

If you open up Computer Management via Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools, and look at Shared Folders/ Shares, you could remove (stop sharing) the folders you don't want, or just remove the lot and recreate the Shared Folders.

Thank you linney. That worked perfectly! But please explain: How did I get the hundreds of duplicated folder names in the first place?

I can't say why, it is not something that happens to most people, it may be something that you are running on your machine that is causing the problem?
