If I understand v$datafile_header, the FUZZY column should be null if my files are not in backup mode. But, all my files are YES under FUZZY, even though if you check in v$backup they are shown as NOT ACTIVE. Can anyone explain what the FUZZY column should be, is there something wrong?

thanks for any comments..

I have the same in a 9.0.1 database

Is this your version ?

I found this on Metalink;

The definition of this column has changed a bit in 9i. Per bug 1158714 development writes in the bug,

"Query on v$datefile_header used to return NULL for Fuzzy column wrongly. It should return YES when any of the fuzzy flags are set. It used to return YES only for hotbackup-fuzzy, not for any other fuzzy."

I believe in 9i it is supposed to YES at least for all datafiles that are ONLINE and READ WRITE (which is usually most or all of your
datafiles), because they are online fuzzy. A file that is OFFLINE clean or READ ONLY should not have any fuzzy bits set (returning NO).

thanks, it is 9i and I guess all the documents I had were referring to 8i, and I expected something like that to be pretty consistent going into 9i....

thanks again for the info.
