Why a link to MS Word doc or excell in my webpage opens up garbage?

hi,

I have links to open word docs, MS excel workbook in one of the web page. When i click on the link, it opens up garbage instead of invoking the MS Word/Excel application and then opening my document within it. Any idea what is wrong and how I can fix this? If I right click on the link and after i do save as doc, and then open the doc, I can see doc is in perfect shape!

This may not be any setting issue in my browser because some other web page which has similar link opens up MS office applications correctly and brings up the document.

Any quick tips on this will be of lot of help.

Do you have the following at the top of your page:

Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-word"
