Is there a utility to tell me who is accessing a particular file on a NT Server volume. Our desktops run Windows2000 Professional.

On the NT Server. Open up Server Manager, it is located under "Administrative Tools" in the start menu.

Then double click on the server in the list. Click on the In Use button at the bottom. This will display a list of all the files and who has them open.

Hope this helps...

There is an utility program named OFL that can help you.
You can download it at It is a freeware.
You can find good tips of use in
There is another option. You can use old winfile.exe program, also present in Windows NT.
If you select a file and then go to properties (or CTRL-ENTER), there is a button named "Open By...".
But I think is not so much reliable...

Antonio.
