JT & All: Just spent an enjoyable hour surfing this site that I really ought to visit more often. One of the postings inquired as to who might have worked on the original programing for SK (Starfish, et.al.) Another reply referred to the inability to find the original programming code(s).

I wonder if the SK/Starfish program rights are available? If so, it appears there are many many users of the various SK versions that might be willing to contribue a small sum (Read very small here!) to aquire the rights and then place them in public domain. I am certainly not a programmer. However, some of the contributors to this site appear to be very talented.

Might we look into the possibiltiy that this program could be made "Public"

I would be willing to help out.

I have been using SK since the 80's and feel it is the best pim out

I have been using SK for years and I would be willing to help too. I bet the date problem is related to something as simple as a dll that needs to be modified (that's if we could get the source code to find it).

Sidekick 99 was the last version of Sidekick to be released to the public, but it wasn't the end of development for Sidekick.

Sidekick went on to become the TrueSync Desktop, which came as part of the data cable accessory with Motorola phones and the Startac Clip-On Organizer for many years. Unfortunately, the TS Desktop also has the 2005 limitation on To-Dos, but it's probably a much less buggy product. (unfortunately one of the great ways of eliminating bugs was eliminating features... so it has far fewer features than SK 99 even...)

As to the rights... probably still owned by Motorola, with an outside chance of being owned by Intellisync. In truth, if you want an open-sourced Sidekick, I'd recommend rewriting it. Building something to read the SK database format would be the hardest part... but use another DB to store it.

Since it appears that Sidekick does not have much a future after 2005 as far as the TO DO list is concerned, does anyone know of any other program available that is comparable to Sidekick 99? Please let me know. Thanks!

Olive12345 I have SK98 - have been using it for years and the To Do feature reaches out to 2029. I am already using the 2006 To Do list. I agree with others who have posted that an open source version of SK that would read current data and save in a db that could be imported into popular handhelds would be worth paying for. I believe it would be a major money maker if all the current features of SK98 were included. Having downloaded and checked out popular commercial and shareware offerings, I have concluded that there is nothing like it on the market.

WDane, What did you do to get the To Do List to accept an entry past Dec 31 2005? I just tried to create a test entry in my To Do List for 6/02/2007 and it came up as past due (In Red) and the date changed to 6/03/2007.

Dear All,

Ref the last question from Zoltan, that was always the case see:

Which I Posted: 23 Jun 04 (Edited 26 Oct 04).

Check the FAQ area of this Forum for answers (If there are any FAQs!) , it could save you a lot of time and effort!

Zoltan, I guess that as long as it works and I can track to do items, for me it doesn't matter whether they are red (past due) or black. Many notes that I make in to do become red and stay so for sometime before I complete them. It would be nice if the past due feature worked OK, but not a major problem for me.

Zoltan, I did overlook a result in my test in SK98. When I entered a to do in June 3, 2006 not only did the entry come up red, it also changed the date to 1998. That is strange, since you got a 2007 date on your test. Red, being the only problem.

After looking up the FAQ on this I see that I am experiencing the same problem as others. If a fix can be provided as Jim suggested in the FAQ that would be great. I can stand the strange "to do" response - even tho' a major nuisance.

I wonder what else in SK98 will break in the future?
WDane
