Our company would like to know who typically designs univereses. Is is database administrators, end users, or others? Is control of the universes tightly kept to a few designers or is access freely given.
[the following is my opinion] I designed my initial universes by printing out all the reports the users had requested so far and making sure those requests were objects in BO. So I was acting as the Application Developer. Universe Designer is the only role in BO that HAS to be someone Technical, usually in IS. His (her) job is to de-mystify the SQL so the end users can write reports.
On The Other Hand, ALL my users HAVE designer, with no save abilities, so they can explore and learn HOW their Universe works. (Two of my end users have learned SQL and joined IS by using the SQL Button in the Data Provider screen and Designer without Save to learn the SQL language)
My one IS trick to 'secure' BO is this, grant select on all your desired tables in all tablespaces to BO, then create synonyms for those grants. All the tables LOOK Like BO owns them, but NONE can be changed, even in free hand SQL. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
