Hi,

I had an e-mail back from the Tek-Tips guys (Dave Murphy, CEO) and he suggested that we, I guess for now anyway, create a new category in the FAQ's section.

What do you think...?

I guess it would be a good testing ground for starters to see if it takes off. I think it will, the amount of people (including myself, very much so) that want examples on how to do something and to have something they can rip apart and keep for future reference, go to the downloads and grab what you want.

Anyone else with thoughts on this? roda B-)

Hi Roda,

Seems to me like a good idea, it's the graphics that I give my best shot at, this is much easier to show by example, than by a text discription..time at the moment is very tight with my work load, but I have some thread replies on file if I can find them and I will try and help anybody that is stuck as they do with me...

i'm trying to understand what you guys are wanting to do..is it that you want to create a tutorials section here at tek-tips for the flash forum? wouldn't that kind of be like the faq section already is now? or not.. just curious!

Yeah, kinda like the faq's section but dedicated to downloadable .fla's. From the feedback I got from a guy at tek-tip's, it looks like we're just gonna create a catorgory in the faq's. Call it "Downloadable FLA's" I guess. Could make it easier for people to find what their looking for and fla's are a good source of learning. ;-) roda B-)

Why not make it system wide? Then you could have downloadable examples for various things like perl scripts or java scripts or something.

Isn't that what Davdesign has in the FAQ section?
More than half of what's in there already hold .flas!

;-)

Well, I wasn't talking about like FAQS and tutorials...

(Well, yea, tutorials too...)
But really just an area of artwork that people have made with flash...say, some kick butt buttons, Some Magical Menus, cool cursors, awesome animations, some super scripts, and some tidy tips. ;)
(Oh god, I'm going disney this morning...)

Anyways, not really a help place, but a showcase of work...with the FLA's...so if some new kid, or maybe even someone w/o any real artistic talent, could go in, and grab what they might need... When life gives you lemons...throw them back and get the oranges you ordered! :-Q

Here is the kind of stuff I was playing around with...=)
I just did it real quick, and had an idea of fixing those buttons up a bit better, but right now I dont have time to tweak....=P

But I was thinking along the lines of something like that... ----------------------------------------

Don't think only the buttons need a little fixing up!
Try the link!
Furthermore... I don't see a .fla ext!

Link will work if you Copy & Paste it in the address box!

Guess DSL is too fast even when previewing(there is a preview box down there!) your post, before posting it?

dude you make no sense!! this is what you say you want to do..

is this not what a tutorial section is for?? sheesh.....if ya want to add these things just make some faq's like everyone else..this is not a magical idea you have come up with(not the<b> magical</b> reference to the&quot;oh my god i'm going disney today&quot; statement that you made..)

anyways sorry if i seem a little flustered by this but it's just a darn tutorial section that you want..it is already in the faq's..just post your fla's there man and be done with it..i mean they can't name the faq page after ya, but atleast you can put your name as the author..

sheeeeeeesh...............

hhh, heated conversation ;-)!! We shouldn't be so serious, learning is a fun thing to do (most of the time). I'm sure we have learnt something here today, like there is already is a section here which is exactly the same as what we wanted to create. I guess it just comes down to enthusiasim for what we do, and to also help others the way others help us.

In the end, all that matters is that we keep lerning and helping each other to become great animators and web builders! Where ever we do it!%-) roda B-)

Not, &quot;I'm going to disney today&quot;...look at the text phrases...
&quot;some kick butt buttons, Some Magical Menus, cool cursors, awesome animations, some super scripts, and some tidy tips&quot;

Notice that the beginning of the pairs of words match?...that's what I ment by that phrase!

And I WASN'T LOOKING FOR A TUTORIAL SECTION!...that was roda's idea...I knew that already existed...but what I was looking for was vector based flash art and stuff!

Oh, and sorry for not previewing, sheesh, is everyone going to be so down on me? I'm only 17, I'm learning, and I'm trying to do my best...personally, I dont CARE about a tutorial section, I was going to leave that up to roda, what I wanted was a gallery of art that people could use...
Buttons, Interfaces, etc... ----------------------------------------

And p.s. to everyone...THE FAQ section isn't made for art, it is made for QUESTIONS!...

FAQ = Frequently Asked QUESTIONS...so Virt, sheesh right back at you...the faq area isn't the apropriate place to put that kind of stuff...next time READ what I said...

Anyways, sorry about the flusteration over on my end...it's just you dont get what I'm saying!

Oh, and it doesn't have the FLA extention because 8k doesn't recognize it and doesn't let anyone touch it...but I need to find a server to post files on so I can link them here...and OldNewB, You've always been a help, I appreciate it...I know theres a preview button, but I'm always in a hurry...=( ----------------------------------------

Well everbody, you all have a valid point, it depends on which side of the fence you are on... My own view point is, that it is easier to have a graphic bank to browse, load, dissceminate the fla's that may be present. FAQ's are great for coding requests, cus some of you bright guys ('n' gals) can usually provide a quick text reply for the questions asked, graphics on the other hand are a lot harder to explain (&quot; give me a picture and save a thousand words&quot;), much easer by example... that's my interpretation what Roda & Whitetiger..but I could be wrong, what ever, chill out..Whitetiger, I'm pushing up to the 60's, I just wish I was a lot younger, but good luck to you, it's good to see the shear enthusiasum....

thank you wudz, you have my idea &quot;hit on the head&quot;...your view is exactly what I have...and I love the quote &quot;Give me a picture and save a thousand words&quot;...that's exactly what I'm trying to do...basically a flash image gallery type thing, where people can grab-n-go ----------------------------------------

Thanks Wt,I am glad I interpretataed your thought correctly, but inlife it's concensus that counts and I will gladly go with the majority vote..it's just that Flash is a graphics medium, without which you may as well stick with xhtml...etc
Now I have yet to get my old cells around action script, with the help, of the helpful particiapants of this forum..they can express themselves perfectly, because the code is,as is..Graphics are not as definable, certainly using vector graphics in place of large slow gif,s & jpgs. A recent example was recently posted, asking for a rotating football, the were pointed to a 32k gif movie, now if there was a rotating whatever that he or she could change or take ideas from, they would more than likly end up with a file 10x smaller in vector graphics and it is a FLASH CODE & dare I say GRAPHICS forum, not giff or jpg forum..but it was the only answer he got, I am still on with a vector football, as I said graphics are not quite as diffinative, quick to answer and work out...But I understand the other side of the argument...
Anyway, we are here to help and be helped how we achive it is arbitary...

Soap box now chopped up..
