Whites on monitor not vibrant

The whites on my Samsung SyncMaster 940bw don't seem to be as bright as it used to be. Compared to a similar monitor next to it which has been used a lot less, the whites are not as 'blue'? I've tried the contrast and brightness settings but they don't seem to be helping at all...

How old is the monitor? And is it LCD or CRT?

Both are LCDs and I got this in early 2007. I use it for an average of 4 hours per day.

I've never heard of an LCD monitor having a color fade problem. What kind of video card are you using, and is the connection DVI? Check your drivers and I'm pretty sure you can get download simple diagnostics for your monitor and video card...

It is most likely the ccfl bulb that supplies the back light on the more heavily used lcd is getting weak. Live with it, or buy a new monitor,because that is cheaper than replacing the lcd.

If it is just the CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) - which seems most likely - and you are reasonably handy at DIY, then you can pick up a replacement CCFL at a reasonable cost. But if it is the power converter for the CCFL They run at a relatively high voltage), then don't bother: a new monitor is very little more and you get a new 3-year warranty.

I'm using a GeForce GT220 videocard and yes it is a DVI connection. The one with the whiter display is connected to the same card via a VGA connection. I think I'll live with this. Thanks for all the intelligent feedback!
