We recently implemented an exchange archive solution. Since the mailboxes are archived to a seperate store, will there be a lot of white space in the exchange database? If so will this slow down backup times. If we cleared out the white space by doing an offline defrag, will our backup times improve?

If you search here about offline defrag, you'll see where it might not be worth it. It depends on how much whitespace you end up with.
