We are currently having an issue with white noise. The problem is when we are speaking you can hear the white noise in the background. When we stop speaking the noise goes away.

Any one have any ideas? Our integrator is stumped, and TAC seems to be no help (although that too could be our integtrater)

We have:
AS5400 gateway
g.729 (integrater has some issue with why this is not .711)
CCM 3.3.2
VAD is off

What type of PSTN trunking are we talking about here? Can you post a config?

Pat

We are using both ISDN lines to sprint and ISDN tie lines to our avaya, does it on both. I know very little about how they are configured within the as5400. I'll give it a stab.

Cable lenght short.

Thats about all i can remember watching that guy set up. What kind of configs were you looking for?

try turning off "comfort-noise" on the voice ports

Rick - post the IOS configuration if possible. What you describe would sound as if VAD is on and comfort-noise turned off, but if it is not...is this on a speakerphone call or with the handset? There is a comfort noise parameter for the voice port that can be used to 'fill' the silence. From CCO:

Use the comfort-noise command to generate background noise to fill silent gaps during calls if VAD is activated. If the comfort-noise command is not enabled, and VAD is enabled at the remote end of the connection, the user hears dead silence when the remote party is not speaking.

The configuration of the comfort-noise command affects only the silence generated at the local interface; it does not affect the use of VAD on either end of the connection or the silence generated at the remote end of the connection.
