ive read through many forums and tutorials about this issue but am still having problems.

when exporting/printing to pdf in inDesign CS3, i am still getting white outlined boxes around objects with transparencies including shapes made in indesign, jpgs placed in frames, etc...

have tried the output settings when printing to pdf, using the pdf/X-1a preset, and viewing options in adobe reader 8. please refer to the link below for a few examples of what im talking about. please help!!! thanks in advance

This is called "stitching". I have had occasional problems with it too. I usually just end up exporting that page as an eps file and place that back into ID, then PDF the document. I'd also welcome a solution.

CS3 has an update to combat this problem... its' called 5.01, makes sense.

You can download it from the HELP menu inside InDesign. Always worth checking out for updates if something isn't working.

Although, I have to say that PDF/X1a isn't perfect, it's not technically a correct PDF to make for press, it's kind of a guide sort of thing, it's not fantastic in so that older RIPs don't understand it and etc... I'm not dissing it or saying not to do it. But I have my own defaults that I use for exporting for Print Quality that work, virtually, on any RIP, tried and tested and works great.

I posted my settings somewhere, can't remember where.

Try the Update first, I'll search out my Post on my settings on this too.

Kind regards,
Eugene

...this is a screen render of acrobat, turn smooth images off in acrobat preferences and they will likey dissappear with 1.3 pdf's...

...the version of acrobat you use upon export to pdf is 1.3 in PDX X1a format, this flattens transparency, any version higher and transparency is maintaned in the pdf, therefore no stitching is likely visible, unless it is from an already flattened eps file imported into indesign, it's possible it might be visible then...

...anyhow, it is a screen render issue and doesn't effect high end output...

...correction...

...i meant to say smooth lineart in acrobat preferences, not images, sorry...
