I am cleaning backgrounds from pictures of items to put on a website by using selection tools and just hitting delete. For some reason they're not on a pure white background but a sort of off white/grey tint which looks terrible on the white background of the site.

thanks for any help

Hi,

You probably aren't capturing all of the background with the selection tools. I would suggest you use quick mask to make a perfect selection or even use channels for that matter, then add in the color of the background from the site behind the image.

Hope this helps!

You say you are hitting delete...

Is the background color in the Photoshop toolbox really white? I'm reading 253/253/253 for your RGB values (not 255/255/255).

Are you using some sort of bizzare color profile? Is this gray appearing when you compress to the JPG format?

ooh,

jimoblak made me think of something.

When you open your image is it locked? If it is and you just press delete then whatever background color is in your tools pallete will show as the background color. Like he said make sure it's white. Press "D" to get the default colors which are pure black and white, and then press delete.

Hope this helps!

The background is 255, 255, 255, which is why I'm mystified as to what's making them look like there's a colored background!
