I have a Dell Inspiron 2650 without wireless capability. Machine has slot to add it but store technician says addding wireless would be hit/miss situation because machine is running Windows 2003 server and not Win XP. Anybody know if that tis true or which wireless to add to the machine that will work?

which wireless modem for Windows 2003?

Not direct reply to your question, but from the same general area.
I setup a Toshiba laptop a couple of years ago. The owner wanted me to get rid of WinXP it came with and install Win2K3 server (Enterprice Edition, although I do not think it matters). After install I still needed to add some drivers, in particular, sound card and built-in WiFi card. I ended up installing WinXP drivers and it worked without any problems.
