I am looking at upgrading from version 8.6 to version 10. The problem is that we are currently running 2000 SBS but I believe we will be moving over to a new 2k3 server in the next year or two. The question is can I purchase Backup Exec 10 for Windows Servers and run it on 2000 SBS to start with and then transfer it to 2k3 server afterwards. I obviously don't want to buy the SBS version and then have to change again in 18 months.

Any advice will be great as it isn't that clear on Veritas website

IT will cost more becuase you will need to purchase the options individually. Veritas SBS license includes Server License, Exchange, Sql, and IDR. No option to backup remote servers. This license will only install on a SBS server.

So the option above would need to be purchased individually and you could use them on either OS versions
