We're a small shop. 4 servers, 100 users. lots of graphic files. We have been using a ARCServe2000 with Exchange Agent and Open file Agent, one 40/80 DLT tape drive system for 2 years. doing fulls weekly, incrementals daily.

Recently, the weekly BU's have started requiring a third tape on a calculated 70GB of data, plus BU DB files. Knowing that software doesn't compress much more than NT compression and graphic files don't compress well. This is not too surprising. I have requested old file deletion, but you know how it is with end users.

So , migrate to what? tape library?, add more tape drives to servers? larger capacity tapes?, archive data to CD carousel?

which way would you go??

Try adding an SDLT drive to your largest system (or the one with the greatest growth potential), and save the DLT for a smaller server. Even though the SDLT drive may handle the capacity of all your servers, you have to start thinking about your backup window.

yea, the SLDT is one of the options

I've got 6 real options.

1.Add a Tape library
2.Add tape drives to each server.
3.Add larger tape system- like the SDLT
4.Off-site remote backups by second party.
5.Archive to CD and install a CD tower for access.
6.Reduce or limit data being stored on the servers.
