I have a LAN with about 50 pcs... and I want to sniff all traffic... so I want to install a sniffer and have statistics about avery pc in my lan (data transfer, local and remote used ports, remote host per local host)...

whick soft would you recomend to do that job¿?

I have test Tamosoft CommTraffic... Any other suggestions?

What kind of switch(s) do you have on your network? Do they support snmp? If no, get ones that do then use MRTG.

at the "top" level I have a 3com hub... like every hub, all info is sent to every port.. so I have the following squema:

INTERNET
\
\
ROUTER
\
\
3com HUB
\ \
\ \
\ Sniffin' PC
\
\
Switch (an ordinay one)
\
\
Whole lan to be minitored

The traffic of the whole network comes to my "sniffin' PC" via the hub...

So I want a soft to sniff the network traffic 24hs a day and give me detailed statistics of every pc in my LAN.

thanks and sorry for my poor english

Look at:
and see which tool you find the most usefull.
There is also a Shareware section.

But if you want to do it on a more complicated way, then use Agilent Network Analyzer.
Go to and select "Network Analysis at your PC- FREE".
Then "Register to download your free network analysis software".
(use your spamcatching e-mail address, not your company address ;-))
Download the software and retreive the free serial number.

When running Agilent on your sniffing PC, the Configuration screen appears.
Uncheck the "Packet Slicing" checkbox.
Set your buffer size to a more suitable size instead of 16MB to reduce resource usage on your Sniffing PC.
Check that the monitor type is Continuous.
Now hit F2.
You should see the Utilization chart filling up.
Hit Ctrl-Shift-X and be amazed of the detailed statistics you get for free.
Hit Ctrl-Shift-C to see an overview of Events which might be interesting for you.
