which should be use, MGCP or h323 1

hi everyone,

I will deal with the issue about cisco callmanager and voice gateway, the gateway is cisco 3825 with VWIC-2MFT-E1 voice card and the PSTN line is two E1 (30B+D), what should the gateway work with the callmanager , MGCP or H323? I find the different configuration which depends on what protocol(H323, MGCP). thanks for your help.

Either h323 or MGCP will work. The difference is with MGCP call manager controls and manages the gateway. h323 on the other hand is a peer to peer relationship between call manager and gateway.
Some prefer h323 and some MGCP. Either one works fine so it all depends on with what you are more comfortable with.

thanks whykap. if I want use mgcp between gateway(cisco3825 +VWIC-2MFT-E1), E1 line (30B+D), my config file in 3825 looks like blow,does it work fine with callmanager? thanks in advance

add these also and that should get you going. There is a lot of tweaking that can be done but as I said it will get you working:

mgcp
mgcp call-agent 1.2.3.4 (ccm IP) 2427 service-type mgcp version 0.1


this will show you if the router is registered and talking to call manager:
show ccm-manager
