At work, on my Windows 2000 server I have to go onto another server and check a file. So what I do is I bring up a DOS shell, ftp into the other server, insert name and then insert password, and then goto the directory to look at the size of the file.

I want to write a script where all I have to do is click on it on the Windows desktop and it will open a DOS command window up and do navigate through all the actions I just described so I can get to the last directory. What langauge would be best to write this in? Pearl, Javascript, or VBS?

VBS is easier and you will probably find a script easily, why did you not just \\server\c$\whereever.log
Or you could use any of 20 VNC programs

The answer is: whichever language you know best. Of course, if you're using Windows for everything then VBScript will be built in, whereas with Perl you would have to install ActivePerl.
