I've currently got 2 RH9 servers w/ Samba 2.2.7 running as members of a WinNT 4 domain. I'm in the process of setting up a new Win2003 server as a domain controller - I assume that means Active Directory. NT machine will be retired.

Can my current version of Samba join the 2003 domain successfully? If so are there limitations to this setup more than with NT, i.e will 2003 authenticate users? Should I upgrade to Samba 3.0.6? Can that be done with a simple "rpm -Uvh <samba.rpm>"? Do I need Kerberos on the Linux machines?

My current setup with NT works fine, Samba is the primary file server. Only issue is when adding users to NT domain, then must add same users to Linux boxes then do a "smbpasswd -a ..." on both boxes.

Thanks in advance for your time and attention, any help is appreciated.

You need samba 3.x and make sure you have the updated kerberos libraries as well.

There is ADS Howto on samba.org website that will tell you everything you need.
