Hi,

I've started studying for my CCNA and would love a router at home to mess about with and get used to the CLI. It would preferably be suitable to plug into my cable modem so I can actually use it when I surf the net.

Which model would be best? I'm not rich so nothing to pricey!

Regards,

John

the general rule is to get a pair of 2501 and a 1900 switch. This will cover all topics covered on the ccna.

John, the cable modem/router you'd need to surf the net would be a Cisco uBR924. The router you'd need to study your CCNA would be the 2501. You can't use (to my knowledge) the 2501 to surf the net from a cable line.
I have both a uBR924 and a 2501 I'll sell you for cheap, they both work fine, I used 2501 for my CCNA and don't use the 924 anymore.
