Hi there,
I worked by years with so called flat databases shipped with Clipper, FoxPro, Visual FoxPro and I made application which used it as back end storage data. In meantime I started with Visual BASIC 6 and same databases, and with MS SQL Server 6.5 and 7. After starting development web application with PHP I discovered MySQL and I liked it. I would like to leave Visual FoxPro and move to some other RAD-tool comfortable to work with MySQL under WinOS. It's not matter is it free, shareware or commercial, at first I would like to know suggestion about tool and then I would to make decision based on price & feature comparison.
Thanks.

On windows, go for the .Net tools. The express versions of visual studio are free and the language is the same as the grown up versions.
You can do vb.net or c#
and it's free !

By tools you mean front ends or db interfaces? or do you mean development frameworks or programming languages?

If the first I suggest SQLYog Community. Its free, and does a wonderful job at managing mysql databases.

If you mean the latter, PHP is un-matched in mysql interaction and capabilities.

Hi pals,
thanks for your response. Yes, I would like to move to some other tools suitable for development application that read/write data into MySQL, like Visual FoxPro. I tried some projects with VFP6,9 & MySQL but it seems to me that for some complex application in multi user environment a one must to involve too much tricks and lick in order to achieve average score and success (MySQL isn't . Finally, some of guys told that VFP will go into pension and I wish to prepared myself for some today's RAD tool. Due that I made this question.

In that case I truly suggest PHP, unless you want a more desktop oriented application, in which case Delphi would be my choice.

Though web based apps are the future

@vacunita:hi mate, thanks for your thoughts. Yes, it's primary idea to develop desktop application. Honestly speaking I tried already combination PHP & MySQL & Apache on web server and I could to say all th best about this trio, but desktop apps oft need some complex form with few tabs, grids, combos and others visual object which are hard to achieve in PHP and keep code simply. I have heard about some CodeGear and some IBM tools but don't have experience.
