OK, here is what i got: I have 3 packages, 2 of them each contain 1 program (we'll call them prog1 and prog2), and a third package that has 2 programs (called prog3a and prog3b). That third package, i set up to have prog3a run before prog3b (under the "advanced" tab, "run program first"). i also set it up that prog2 would run before prog3a, and prog1 to run before prog2. (that was kinda long and wordy, did anyone understand it??)

my question is which program do i advertise to have all these programs run in the correct order (prog1->prog2->prog3a->prog3b)?

Complex..

Setup and run Prog1 which calls Prog2.
Prog2 should be setup to call Prog3a.
Prog3a already calls Prog3b.

Each will have to complete before the next Package starts. So you are good to go. You will be getting a ton of reporting with this one.LOL.

The only issue I see with this is that the dependency programs in this situation will not provide a notification to the user that an installation is happening. They will install in the background, then once all programs the advertised program requires are installed, a notification to the user that a program is about to install will occur.(that is assuming you have your advertisement configured to notify the user at all).

In our organization we typically script (vbscript) the installs to occur in the right order with a single advertisement and provide feedback to SMS through the use of exit codes.
