The company has a web-site hosted elsewhere, and want to develop an intranet application with SQL server. The web-site need to be upgraded to let users access the database which is going to be located in the local server (not in the web-site hosting server).
If the web-hosting server is Microsoft, and the web-site is developed in Frontpage, could the local server be a Linux one with Oracle or MySQL with Apache and still use Frontpage for the web-site development as well as the intranet developing?
I will appreciate your opinions.
Regards,
Jose.-

Each of the servers will be independent of each other, so yes, you can have your web site on a Microsoft server and your database on a Linux server. As long as the programming language that the web site is written in (ASP, PHP, CFM, etc...) knows how to "talk" with the database you're using.

Hope This Helps!
