Hi everyone,

I'm new to Oracle but I'm in the process of downloading the software for internal testing and evaluation.

I was going to download Oracle9i Lite, as that seemed to be the most logical choice, but I read the documentation first, and it inplies that Lite is a mobile application server.

I just need a database server/client platform to do some internal testing and performance metrics against SQL Servfer 2000 and MySQL.

Can anyone tell me which Oracle product I need to download?

Thanks!

Hi:
If you download and test the Enterprise version of 9.2, you'll be able to install a scalable version of Oracle with network connectivity features that I don't believe are part of Oracle Personal or Lite editions. This version comes with other maintenance tools that you may selectively install. I'm not certain your budget, but Enterprise seems the most flexible, especially if you're planning to use an ODBC style connection to monitor other databases. If you do use Oracle, know that the latest patch set as of this posting is 9.0.2.4 - highly recommended. Depending on the platform you plan to install it on, there are operating system requirements that should be addressed by your Systems Administrator.

Thanks a lot! I did download the software, and was trying to install it on a WinXP Pro box, but for some reason, the installer never took. It would start the process, and then do the hourglass thing, and then just hang.

I've read some dox that indicate that this is a rare (but known) problem with some installs.
