Hello, <first time poster> <<woot woot>> Im currently backing up all of my noeds <35> and also my servers <4> and my questions: I have been doing full backups on a daily basis and overwriting the previously back up. I want to setup to back up on say Saturday<full> and thru out the week either DIFFERENCIAL or INCRAMENTAL. My question is, which is best to use? What are the differences? To my knowledge, it's only a time issue....or restoring and backing up. Is this true? Or are there other factors? <And yes I know, I need to get a Tape drive> :O) No budget currently...<or so im told> Well thanks for the help/information. Either respond here or /msg Fast_ on undernet. Thanks

An incremental backs up only the data changed on that day. To restore the full system on a Thursday, you would need to restore your Saturday full backup followed by the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday incremental backups.

A differential backs up all data changed since the last full backup. To restore the system you just have to use the Saturday and Wednesday backups.

In either case make sure that the full backup is configured to reset the archive bit when it runs.
