I have never used Linux but would like to get some experience with it. I have been reading about some distributions of Linux where installation is not required, that is, they can boot from and run from a cd or floppy (Demolinux, Maragda, etc.) without affecting Windows. Does anyone have experience with any of these or others like them? If so, will this give me a true feel for using Linux? What are their good features and bad features? Any and all comments welcome.

Thanks!
Dave

Hi,

You can try the Suse live demo CD - downloadable as an iso if you have the bandwidth --> . Or see -->
The main drawback is that its going to be slower than a real system and, probably, you'd only get to see the KDE desktop which is the one preferred by Suse. Redhat, Mandrake, etc., default to the Gnome desktop.

I can't say much more than that as I'm much more used to the real thing....

Hope this helps
