Hello there,

I am a newbee in this case. We have a small small remote network with some webservers, pix firewall an switches that we want to check with snmp. Now we want to by a network management system and confessed that the most are very expensive. For our small network I guess we dont need half of the functionality of what these systems offer.

Could someone of you give me a hint if there is a cheap network management system?

Greetings

Martin

Hello PalmTest,

thank you for your answer.

I just checked the links you posted. It looks like it is kind of difficult for a newbee and you have to program a couple of things for your own. But we dont want to pay something like 2000 dollars like hp open view or something.

Have a look at whatsup gold. Very straightfrward and does the job. It won't break the bank if you have a budget for it as well.
In the OpenSource arena take a look at opennms -
As regards programming - I haven't ever had to do any. You have to configure systems and specify what you want monitored but no programming.
