We creating our own version of hell right here in my own back yard. We have both Novell and Windows servers and some workstations are using Windows Client for Novell and some are using the Novell client. How could I programatically figure out which client the current workstation is running to access the network?

Why do you have both types of Network Client?
Both perform very similarly apart from some extra functionality in the Novell Client for printing and backups.

I don't make decisions at the network level, but according to my guys they don't behave as similarly as you might think. We have tried to move everyone to the Windows client and created problems were unable to solve any other way than by putting the Novell client back. We are trying to spend our time getting the whole system over to Windows (which should be complete in the next couple of months) rather than solving problems that running in a mixed environment creates.

Pam is right the Novell client (apart from being a pig to remove) does provide some functionality that the MS one doesn't - but on the other hand it's not really very happy working in a mixed environment with Netware and MS shares - but that's life!

You could try running a Netware specific program and see it if works - say MAP and check the output?
