What do you thnink loads faster -say i do a simple banner-words on a background and save as a flash .swf and the same thing as say a .gif-will the flash load faster -is it still using vector principles and is there any difference if I keep the words as a symbol or break them apart? How about say a rollover effect -which will load and work better - a flash movie or a javascript rollover? Thanks -your all a great help!

In terms of file size, the only way to find out is to experiment. With a GIF, there's every chance you'll lose a lot of the formatting you created in flash before exporting as a gif, for example:
...loses a lot compared with the pretty basic swf.
Javascript or Flash? Javascript ain't my thing, Old or Blended will no-doubt know.
