I'm having trouble deciding whick file type to use .mdb or .adp. (.mdb is easier to work with but .adp gets better performance and processing speed.) Anyone have any suggestions?
If you have the resources and time, use the ADP. An Access front end tied to a SQL back end is a close to a "Real" RDBMS as your gonna get without going to Oracle.
If it's a single user, one machine type DB (Say, keeping track of your DVDs..), go with the MDB and use the Wizards. Tyrone Lumley

An ADP file is a wonderful thing. If you are working on a small system, however (1-5 people) go with mdb. ADP means getting a registered version of SQL Server ($$$). Still, if you are working on a slow network and the system may be used by 10+ people, you still may want an ADP.
ADP works with the Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) as well as full SQL Server. And the price is right (free) for small groups of users. The main limitation is a 2GB database size.
