I am asking this because I have a new 60 gig hardrive with 30 gigs of media files that I would like linux to have. I really do not want to reload all the media files onto the drive if I don't have too! But I will if linux's file system is better, ie more reliable, faster, etc.

Thanks

Linux can access a Fat32 partition, but I doubt Linux can run its main system files on a Fat32 partition.

If you don't want to have to realod your 30 gigs of media files, I recommend you get a copy of Partition Magic, and repartition your 60 gig drive into at least 2 partitions, leaving the 30 gigs of media files on the last partition.

This leaves the files accessible to both Linux and Windows, but let's you install Linux on a native partition.
