Hi! I'm a System-/Database Administrator for Oracle 7.4 Databases on IBM RS6000 Machines with AIX 4.3.3; Yesterday I've had the Problem, that from one day to the other the crontab was empty... it was very difficult to restore it, because I've only mksysb tabes from the System drives... So my question is: which Files/folders are in case of emergency so important, that a good administrator backs them up regular? Thank you, for your Ideas

Well I hope you're saving the database :)

Your MKSYSB tape will contain /var/spool/cron/crontabs which contains the crontab in question. depending on the date of the tape you may be able to recover it.

I also do AIX / Oracle and when I edit a crontab I use this method;

crontab -l > temp
vi temp
crontab temp

This leaves me with several temp file around which are copies of the root and oracle crontabs - helpful if one goes west !

As to your original question you should be backing up;

MKSYSB
Oracle software
Database
Archive logs
Application Software
anything else you feel is important (interfaces, order files, etc, etc)

Alex
