which DVI cable do I need?

Hi there,

I'm getting a Samsung 940b 19" LCD and it does not come with a DVI cable. I have a powercolor radeon 9600 pro with a DVI-I output. The LCD has a DVI-D input. Do I get a DVI-I cable or a DVI-D cable or one with one of each? I'm confused.....

The way it was explained to me by Viewsonic is that the DVI-D cable just passes the digital signals while the DVI-I cable passes both the analog and digital signals. So, if you wanted to connect an analog monitor, you would need a DVI-I adapter/cable. If you're connecting a digital monitor (as in this case) you can use a DVI-D or DVI-I cable, as you're only interested int he digital portion.

Get a DVI-D cable. Also, consider a dual link cable, as it can display higher resolutions than a single link, and it's only a few $ more.

ok, so DVI-D sounds like what I need.

Do you think the dual link will be needed for 1280x1024?

Single link can display up to 1920x1080 resolution, while dual link is good up to 2048x1536.
