Hi,

I'm trying to start a new web site on a relatively large scale, with a giant listing of lots of info (>1,000,000 records), and lots of information within each record. I need it to be relatively powerful but not overboard. And it will have some e-commerce functions in them. I don't even know where to start; anyone have any recommendations for good web database backends? Oracle, SQL, J2EE, ASP, I'm getting lost among them!

Thanks.

use PHP/MySql, its very cheap and powerful.

Known is handfull, Unknown is worldfull

Depends on how you're going to host the site. If you're using a commercial hosting company, you'll have to use whatever they support. If you are using a leased server, or you own your own server, then you can use whatever you want. You might give Mysql a look. It's a pretty powerful SQL database and can easily handle the number of records you indicate.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!
