I have a question, I tried a test where I connected a windows 98 machine to an NT server over the web, I first made a DUN connection to my ISP, and then a VPN connection to the server. All worked fine, but then I killed the VPN connection, and quite unexpectedly everything still worked fine. What is the function of VPN, when it seems that all my resources were still visible without it. I know that this is probably to do with my security settings on the test server, but could someone please explain how I am supposed to use VPN, and how I can route traffic over it?

Thanks in Advance

Owen

When you disconnect your VPN you should not be able to still access the network. VPN creates en encrypted tunnel thru the internet with either PPTP or L2TP protocols. Then your server authenticates you. When you disconnect your VPN that tunnel should cease to exist..sounds very strange.. Matt Wray
