Which CCNA Track?

Hi Everyone, I’m sorry if this question has been asked a thousand times before but I’m hoping someone can help.

I got my CCNA about 4-5 years ago and it has now expired, I have just made the decision to get my CCNP/CCSP so I now have to get my CCNA again, from checking out the Cisco web site it seems that you can get the CCNA via two tracks either just the 640-801 exam or 640-821 and 640-811.

So my question is, what is everyone else doing? Is the CCNA much harder than it was 5 years ago? Is that why there are now two exams or did Cisco just decided to split them up.

At this stage I’ve started studying for my CCNA INTRO exam seeing I have not touched a router for a year or so but I’m thinking is it better just to go straight into my CCNA 640-801.

Any recommendation would be great, thanks.

SefLogic,

Cisco dropped some of the CCNP stuff down into CCNA such as OSPF in a single area, VLSM and DHCP/NAT/PAT.

Is it any harder ? I do not think so and I took the old CCNA and the latest CCNA to renew my CCNA a couple of years ago.

The reasoning behind why Cisco went to the 2 part CCNA exam (this is what we were told in a Cisco Network Academy session at Cisco Networkers several years ago) was that some of the academy students as well as their instructors (who did not have networking backgrounds) were having trouble passing the CCNA exam. Can not have a Academy system if the instructor can not pass the exam :)

I think it comes down to a cost issue - 2 exams at (Ithink) $100 each or 1 exam at $125.

If you get the latest Cisco Press CCNA book and the Sybex CCNA Study guide and brush up on some hands-on - you should have no trouble if you did not have trouble 5 years ago!

Just my thoughts!
