I am setting up a triple boot system for my friend with:

1. WindowsXP
2. WindowsXP (for testing unstable applications)
3. Slackware 9.0

Not having used LILO before, I am tempted just to do a:

dd if=/dev/hda of=/tmp/bootsect.lnx bs=1 count=512

and copy that to c:\ and add an entry to the boot.ini to boot Windows. This seems the easiest and stablest.

However, I could also install LILO to the MBR, and then add the two Windows entries to LILO.

I have the read the LILO documentation, and it is all straightforward.

What I am unsure about is which method to use. Which do you see is better and why? What are the limitations and/or complications between the two methods.

Thanks in advance.

I am not sure I caught what you are saying. If you are adding an entry to your Boot.ini, then you must ave LILO installed in the superblock of your Linux partition. So either way, you will be booting LILO.

In that case, it is really a matter of personal preference as to whcih you pick. I would use LILO as it you can just configure it in the Slackware installation. Using the Boot.ini is not going to disadvantage or advantage you in any way.
